HIS STRENGTH WILL MAKE YOU DIFFERENT: The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit (PT1)

I - Grace will be given to you, along with Seven Gifts. (Page 24; Questions 18 & 19)

1. GRACE is the free and undeserved gift that God give us to respond to our calling - our VOCATION - to become his adopted children.

A. Undeserved, because we did not ask Him for this gift. We did not do anything to get GRACE.

B. When we know our purpose in God, it is because we talk to God, and listen to Him through prayer. Prayer is key to connecting to God, like a cell phone or Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc) platform to connect with family, and friends.

C. In the HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GOSPELS (pg 21

2; 135), Jesus speaks to us of that connection we will have with the Holy Spirit - He will “guide us to all truth.” The Truth we He speaks of is God present in the World, and in our Lives. It is crucial that you and I speak to Him daily, set times to talk with Him, and enter to the celebration of Mass, and other Liturgies that draw us deep into His Love. Forgetting to connect with Him makes it worse for us to get to Him, even to see Him in our lives.

Remember the video - NAVIGATION with Matthew Kelly:

The Holy Spirit is our Navigator to the Truth. When the Spirit is in hour life, He gives us Seven Gifts that will help us to be the best version HE WANTS us to be Saints!

II - What are these Seven Gifts? (Page 24 - 25; Questions 19 - 23)The Seven Gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to us in Confirmation are:

1. Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. We will concentrate on first four

2. WISDOM - Helps is to find God, and make Him the center of our life, so that love may grow in your soul.

A. In the HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GOSPELS (pg 207; 128), Jesus says, “Whoever loves me will keep my word.”

B. Jesus was real with us - if you say you Love Him, you would be listening - you would be following. You would make time to speak with Him, learn about Him, and learn from Him through those who share the faith with you. Never shy away from searching for God, or finding meaning in your life. We desire to know God, and its like the feeling of being hungry and thirsty, BUT GREATER THAN THIS.

3. UNDERSTANDING - God gives me His light to my mind, that I can know and love the truths of faith and live by them.

A. In the HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GOSPELS (pg 212; 134), Jesus teaches His Disciples that the “Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.” Jesus is teaching us a simple lesson, His Spirit will make the connection of His teachings in your life. He will also remind you of these teaching when someone tests your faithfulness, scares you to believe in something else, or tries to manipulate you to doing something that can put you in physical or spiritual danger.

B. Keep in mind the word, ADVOCATE, which is the name Jesus gives to the Holy Spirit. An ADVOCATE, is another word for defender in a court. In other words, the Holy Spirit is your ADVOCATE when you’re in trouble - He will remind you what you Believe and encourage you to stand up for the Truth.

4. COUNSEL - Also known as having RIGHT JUDGMENT - this gift guide us in all our actions, to know and do God’s holy will and act with prudence.

A. PRUDENCE means that you have the strength to make moral choices - the right decisions - ones that reflect God in your life and your journey towards being Holy.

5. FORTITUDE - gives strength to my soul in times personal troubles and temptations, drawing me to have confidence in God.

Let’s Conclude with this prayer:We make the Sign of the Cross:

ASPIRATIONS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
“Light of the intellect, enlighten me.
Divine Fire of hearts, inflame me.
Fullness of souls, fill me.
Lord of grace and life, vivify me.
In this vale of suffering, guide me.
In my weakness, strengthen me.
From stumbles and falls, deliver me.
With your Divine Gifts, enrich me.
With your presence, console me.
By your Divine Works, sanctify me.
My Jesus, transform me that having been faithful upon earth,
I may be eternally happy in heaven, in the perfect reflection of your love.”Amen
